Hip Physio in Drummoyne & the Inner West
Hip pain shouldn't hold you back. Our Drummoyne team treats hip pain in men and women across the Inner West, finds what's driving it and gets you moving comfortably again.
Our approach to hip rehabilitation
We use structured, evidence-informed rehabilitation rather than simply treating the painful area. For conditions such as gluteal tendinopathy, progressive strengthening, load management and education make up a major part of treatment. Hip rehabilitation is also a regular focus of our in-house clinical training, with structured professional development and case discussions so the whole team is confident assessing and managing common hip conditions.
We also offer private health fund rebates, making it easier and more affordable to access the care you need.

Conditions we treat
Six ways hip pain shows up
-
Pain on the outside of the hip that can make lying on your side, climbing stairs, walking or standing on one leg uncomfortable. It is often related to the tendons around the outside of the hip, and we treat it with load management, targeted strengthening and movement retraining.
-
An ache at the front of the hip or in the groin, sometimes with a pinching feeling when you squat, sit low or bring your knee up. It can involve the hip joint or the muscles and tendons around it, so we assess how your hip and pelvis move and load before building a plan.
-
Tendon pain around the hip and pelvis that builds up with repeated load, such as running, lifting or increased training. Treatment focuses on gradually rebuilding the tendon's capacity to handle load while keeping you as active as possible.
-
Stiffness and aching in the hip that is often worse after sitting or first thing in the morning. Exercise, education and load management are commonly used to help people keep moving and stay active, and we will refer you on if your assessment suggests further investigation would help.
-
Hip pain that shows up with running, gym training, CrossFit or sport. We look at your training load, technique and strength to work out what is contributing, then help you return to your activity with a plan that suits it.
-
Hip, pelvic and lower back pain that can develop as your body changes during pregnancy or after birth. Our team has training in musculoskeletal physiotherapy during and after pregnancy and in women's pelvic health.
Treatments Include
Your treatment plan is built around what's actually driving your hip pain, and may draw on a combination of the following:
Manual therapy to ease stiffness and irritation and help restore normal movement through the hip, pelvis and surrounding joints
Targeted exercise rehabilitation to build the strength and control your hip needs to handle everyday load and get back to the activities you want to do
Movement retraining to address the patterns and habits, at your desk, in the gym or on the run, that may be contributing to your symptoms
Load management to help you understand how much activity is appropriate at each stage, rather than defaulting to rest
Dry needling as an option alongside exercise and hands-on treatment, where it suits your presentation
Clinical Pilates to residents in the Inner West as an ongoing option once the acute phase settles, to build long term hip and pelvic strength and reduce the chance of flare ups
Hip rehabilitation is a regular part of our in-house training and case discussions
We treat hip pain in both men and women, from runners on the Bay Run and gym-goers through to new mums and dads, active adults and people whose hips have become stiffer and sorer over time, helping each get back to parenting, everyday activities, the gym or sport.

Common questions about hip pain
-
It depends on where you feel it. Pain on the outside of the hip is often related to the tendons around the hip, while groin or front-of-hip pain can involve the joint or the surrounding muscles and tendons. Pain felt in the hip can also come from the lower back, sacroiliac joint or pelvis. A physiotherapy assessment helps work out which it is.
-
It depends on the cause, severity and how long you've had your symptoms. Some episodes improve over a few weeks, while persistent or recurring back pain may need a longer rehabilitation program.
-
No referral is required. You can book directly, and we're happy to work alongside your GP or specialist if you have one.
-
Physiotherapy is commonly used to manage hip osteoarthritis through exercise, education and load management. Whether surgery is needed depends on the individual, and we will refer you on if your assessment suggests it would help.
-
Complete rest rarely helps for long, and some hip problems can be aggravated by certain positions or activities. We help you work out what to modify and what you can keep doing.
-
Yes. We regularly treat clients from across the Inner West, including Five Dock, Rozelle, Balmain, Concord, Leichhardt and Haberfield. -
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily, and bring any relevant scans, imaging reports or referral letters if you have them.
