Postnatal check

A thorough check after birth, however you gave birth

Your six week medical check focuses on your general recovery. A pelvic health physio check looks closely at your pelvic floor, abdominal wall and back, so you know what's healing well and what needs support. We recommend booking from around six weeks after a vaginal or caesarean birth, and it's never too late if your baby is already older.

Your check includes

Pelvic floor strength & coordination
Abdominal separation check
Caesarean scar & perineal healing
Bladder & bowel function
Safe return to exercise & running

Early check-in by Zoom

For existing clients, we also offer a Zoom check-in online from 0 to 6 weeks after birth, before your 6 week check in the clinic.

Mastitis & breast care

Fast, gentle care when feeding gets painful

What is mastitis?

Mastitis is an inflammation of the breast tissue that most commonly occurs during breastfeeding, but it can also affect women at other times. It often develops when milk flow is blocked within the breast, leading to swelling, pain and sometimes infection.

Mastitis can come on quickly and may significantly impact comfort, feeding, and overall wellbeing. Early assessment and treatment are important to relieve symptoms, support continued breastfeeding where desired, and reduce the risk of complications such as abscess formation.

Our Mastitis & Breast Care service focuses on relieving inflammation, improving milk flow, supporting healing, and providing education to help prevent recurrence.

Treatment may include

Therapeutic ultrasound
Gentle lymphatic drainage
Feeding & positioning advice
Ice & comfort strategies

We also help with blocked ducts and engorgement.

If you feel unwell or feverish, see your GP as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Women's Health Physiotherapy?

Women's Health Physiotherapy focuses on physical conditions and changes that can affect women throughout pregnancy, postpartum recovery, menopause and other stages of life.

What Does a Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist Do?

A pelvic floor physiotherapist assesses pelvic floor function and provides personalised treatment and exercise for conditions affecting the bladder, bowel, pelvic floor and pelvic region.

Do I Need a Referral?

You generally don't need a referral to see a physiotherapist.

Do I have to have an internal examination?

No. It's always your choice. We'll explain the options and you can decide at any point, including on the day. We can still assess and treat without one.

Can I See a Women's Health Physio During Pregnancy?

Yes. Physiotherapy can provide support throughout pregnancy, including pelvic floor care, exercise guidance and management of musculoskeletal symptoms.

Can I See a Physio After Having a Baby?

Yes. Postpartum physiotherapy can help assess your recovery and provide guidance around pelvic floor function, abdominal changes, strength and returning to exercise.

When should I book my postnatal check?

From around six weeks after birth. It's never too late, even if your baby is now a toddler or older. Existing clients can also book an online Zoom check-in in the first six weeks.

Is Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Only for Women Who Have Had Children?

No. Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy can be appropriate for women at different stages of life, regardless of whether they have had children.
