Common questions about shoulder pain

What causes shoulder pain?

Rotator cuff and tendon irritation, bursitis, stiffness, instability and changes in activity or loading can all contribute. Shoulder pain can also come from the neck, so we assess both.

Can physiotherapy help with frozen shoulder?

Yes. Frozen shoulder can take time to settle, and physiotherapy can help you manage pain and gradually regain movement with a plan suited to each stage.

Do I need surgery for a rotator cuff tear?

Not always. Many rotator cuff problems are managed with a structured rehab program first. Your physio will assess your shoulder and work with your GP or specialist if surgery needs to be considered.

When can I start rehab after shoulder surgery?

We follow your surgeon's protocol, which usually starts in the first few weeks. Bring any instructions from your surgeon to your first appointment.

Should I rest my shoulder?

Keeping your shoulder completely still usually isn't recommended. Gentle movement within comfort is generally better, and your physio will guide you on what to keep doing and what to modify.

Do you treat clients outside Drummoyne?

Yes, we see clients from right across the Inner West and beyond, including Five Dock, Concord, Rozelle, Abbotsford, Russell Lea, Canada Bay, Balmain, Lilyfield, Leichhardt, Haberfield, Hunters Hill and Gladesville.

Do I need a scan or referral first?

No, you don't need a scan or a referral to see us. Your physio will assess you and guide you on whether a scan is needed.

Can I claim on private health?

Yes, we offer private health fund rebates, making it easier and more affordable to get the care you need.
